027 – Abhita Austin, Future Music Moguls Program, NYU

MSCLVR Interview Series #027 w/ Abhita Austin, Future Music Moguls Program, NYU

This episode of the podcast is featuring the super talented Abhita Austin, recording engineer, music producer, and wearer of many hats including leadership roles at Gender Amplified (celebrating and supporting women in music production), Pushing Buttons Collective, as well providing instruction at Future Music Moguls Program at NYU. And I know there is more but you get the point – Abhita stays busy!

We recorded today’s interview a few weeks ago in NYC at “The Future of Audio” Series produced by our friends at The Digilogue powered by our friends at Sennheiser – Sennheiser is shaping the future of the audio industry with a unique approach to audio innovation, a passion for excellence, and, of course, a rich history of high end product development ranging from headsets to microphones – be sure to check out their recently released Ambeo Smart Headset that allows you to record and play audio back in 3D sound – if you have no experienced 3d sound it will undoubtedly change the way you experience your content consumption – mind blowing stuff really! Stay tuned to the end for info on The Digilogue and their partnership w/ Sennheiser

This one like the episode we dropped last week w/ Chen Lo is short but very sweet – Abhita was kind enough to sit with us shortly before she gave her Intro to Logic Masterclass which you can find on this very podcast – it should be the episode just ahead of this one so if you missed it definitely give it a listen if are interested in music production, the Logic software suite, and/or are just curious about how beats are made.

In this discussion we get a bit more background on how Abhita has thrived in stereotypically male dominated fields. She played the drums growing up so perhaps that early experience of being somewhat of an “outlier” prepared her mentally for her eventual decision to pursue music production and engineering – another vertical within the music industry that has generally attracted more men and thus, made it challenging for women to get their due recognition in many respects.

Abhita was such a fun person to interview and I hope we can get her back for a MSCLVR After Dark – I am sure she’s got some great stories we all can learn from!
